From The Blog

August Mega Post!

Wow! So it’s been an incredibly busy summer for me so far… so busy that I haven’t written a proper blog post in several weeks now (or is it months?). Either way, I’m back and I have some major notifications to post. First, the news from June/July:

June 2009.

Jury Duty! Ugh – I was stuck in a 3 week trial that actually had to do with the town that I grew up in (La Verne California) concerning an accusation of criminal “conflict of interest”. I ended up being the jury foreman and was interviewed by the local press and the works.  I’ve gotta say, while I never really look forward to time away from work, this turned out to be a pretty interesting process.

We also hammered out the development of the Pubmatic redesign (built on WordPress) and wrapped up development of the new Redmine redesign for our internal team of contractors/clients at ShaneandPeter.com. Finally, I got to contribute some designs to Locumedia (part of the Tuner Media Group) that turned out to be pretty exciting. Oh, and I was the top seller at ThemeForest for the month. I also was awarded the 3rd place prize for the prestigious CME project at Cal Poly Pomona for the Marketing/Promotional plan that I worked on with Maha Ghosen for OnPoint Technologies. Sweet!

July 2009.

July started busy and never stopped. Pubmatic.com redesign launched among other major projects. I also helped out with a pretty cool new farm-to-consumer co-op on some interesting dashboard designs. At ThemeForest I also released the Atlantica WordPress templates, the Pacifica HTML template, as well as several major updates to all of my ThemeForest items. Finally, the team at S&P began work on a massive 9-month long project for a major blog portal that’s on the Alexa 10K list.  Oh, and I had  the priveledge to pitch some quickie designs to one of the leading  hard-drive manufacturers in the world.

WordPress MU

I also took the dive into WordPress MU – transferring every WP installation that I’m hosting (except this one) over to WPMU for some radically easier management. This will make expanding my line of WP themes infinitely easier. I still haven’t poked my head into every nook and cranny of WPMU, but so far it’s proving to be an incredibly wise move for anyone who runs more than one WP installation where data/plugins/users need to be shared.

More Updates & Next Month’s Schedule

As always, if (and when) I get permission to show off the designs from some of these projects, I’ll be sure to drop some image-candy here at the blog.

Here’s the schedule for next month:

  1. Lots of freelance work. School starts in just  over a month, so the goal is to get every project that I’m working on as far as it can go before the early-quarter madness begins.
  2. Moving  in September! Alaire and I found a great deal on a townhome in La Verne that we’ll be moving into in the September heat.
  3. ThemeForest releases will include: Concept WP, Iconic WP, Pacifica WP, and finally, a new WP theme that’s sure to make image-heavy bloggers drool just a bit.
  4. New site theme for MakeDesignNotWar.com – Yep – It’s finally time to begin rolling out a new theme for my blog/portfolio. I have no idea how  long this process is going to take, I’d venture a guess at early Fall. This will be my chance to really dig into some more advanced WP theming and plugin development. I’m excited to start!

Congratulations on all your achievements over the summer. I saw the numbers you've posted for your items for sale on ThemeForest. Really, really impressive and I bet it is helping the bottom line ;)

I can't wait to see you at Freelance Camp so I can pick your brain on the whole templates for sale thing. See you in a few weeks :)

Thanks dude! I actually can't make it up to Freelance camp this year as it coincides with my mother's 60th birthday and we've been planning a big surprise party for a few weeks now… I'm seriously considering just hitching a flight for Sunday/Monday, but I definitely can't be there on Sat. Anyways – thanks for the comment and congrats dude :) I'd still be very interested in chatting with you about all of this and looking into potential collaborations.
